Crow Haiku #11

April lays out
but i play on hanging on
for miles ... to remember

* * * *

Thank you April, poetry, and jazz.  This month i set out to write a haiku everyday* accompanied by a photo. This combination of image with haiku is also known as haiga. And so this was my first ever haiga offering. Actually, i've been experimenting with haiga for quite some time and didn't even know it!

*The exceptions were three days in April (12-14), which don't have an entry. I chose instead to post four haiku (together they read like a short poem) with just one image for the entry on April 15.

(View the complete April haiga offerings here)

Also, many offerings this month include links to jazz tunes which i felt enhanced the mood of the photo, words, or both. My thanks to you all for reading and listening ...

como te voy olvidar
you are everywhere
tan solo estoy
in sweet company we walk
y no te siento
my lips moisten yours

Been kind of a slow week with the mobile photos. But some good news: after 4 1/2 months without a job, i finally began a temp gig the day after my birthday. Been up and down, driving around (yes, driving!), and although i haven't taken many pix that inspire haiku, i haven't abandoned my haiku-a-day for National Poetry Month. Call it a post-birthday artistic lull; however, reflecting on new directions in art, this blog, and life. Instead of scheduling four different posts for the four days i've been absent (even though it makes more sense for continuity), i make  just one offering with four new haiku accompanying a photo from the early Spring archive. I'm thankful for the embrace of friends and family who've been of beautiful company and support during these tough months, to the ancestors and Creator, for this dream, this breath, this life, this day to live fully ... and to you, dear reader.

"I have always wanted my art to service my people--to reflect us, to relate to us, to stimulate us, to make us aware of our potential."
~Elizabeth Catlett (15 April 1915 - 2 April 2012)

Ms. Catlett's sculptures, especially her wood and linoleum carvings, are extremely  moving and inspiring as they, indeed, stimulate ... i offer this beautiful Coltrane tune which also sculpts a somber, yet liberating, mood.

Ciento - 100

... for my 100th post i've chosen an image that pretty much sums up what this daily photo blog's been about so far: a lone crow perched on a telephone pole, against a bright blue sky and rising first quarter moon. Despite going four months without work, i've kept my head up, looking up and all around at the magic available everyday. Indeed, i have a lot to be thankful for, as i practice remaining present through each passing phase. The only thing missing here are the two  stray cats i feed (which reside in the area just beneath this telephone pole) and, of course, my boy Moon.

But enough commemorating (no need for a lengthy reflection as i did for my 50th post), i have 'flower and song' to articulate and jazz to appreciate ... I'm humbled by all the views, comments and support. Gracias.
